About Me

Aspiring journalist, reluctantly retired competitive swimmer, and professionally sleep deprived. I have officially replaced my heartbeat with a constant intake of caffeine.

I've been a reader and writer since I was a kid. I'd finish novels within a day, and I'll spare you the experience of reading my old projects, but I was never quite sure how to apply those passions in the working world. Moving through college as a mass communication major, however, I discovered that I prefer writing about people and telling stories over being a news reporter.

Whenever I see the majority of focus pointed one way, my instinct is to turn 180 degrees and search for something, someone, some experience that was missed.

It has never been easier to become exhausted with, and find ways to drown out, the negative happenings in the world, but nothing is remedied by being ignored. I want to tell the stories that aren't told; the stories that are ugly; the stories that are uncomfortable; the stories that go unheard because they make us question ourselves and our society, because those may be the most important stories to tell.

"I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened."
"So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."

- Conversation between Frodo and Gandalf in the Fellowship of the Ring.
